Who We Are

The Church of the Apostles is a dynamic, growing independent Anglican (Episcopal) mission located in the Santa Clarita Valley of California.

Our faith is founded firmly on Holy Scripture. We recognize that people grow emotionally and spiritually at their own rate and rhythm. We realize that as we build a mission church together, we are not alone. We are building on the foundation laid for us by 2,000 years of Christian Tradition, Holy Scripture and Jesus Christ himself - the One who is the same Yesterday, Today and Forever.

Our ways are ancient and based upon centuries of tradition. Our faith is unchanging. We stand on the Rock of Jesus Christ as he has been made known to us in the teaching of the Holy Apostles, the Holy Church and the Holy Bible. We stand on this Rock in the midst of the turbulent sea of the ever-changing world around us, and we offer you this firm foundation in order that you may have that peace which the world cannot give; the peace of God, which passes man's understanding. Because we are a part of the larger world-wide family of Anglican Churches, we are accountable to the authority of Holy Scripture, the Book of Common Prayer and the Thirty-Nine Articles of Religion (our doctrinal statement).

Many Anglicans who are troubled by the changes in the faith and doctrines in their church in the present age, have either stopped going to church or have joined non-Anglican churches, only to find that their spiritual hunger and longing for the true Catholic sacraments and doctrines of the Book of Common Prayer continue to be unsatisfied. You will find a home at Church of the Apostles. Also if you are new to the Church, or have lapsed for any length of time, we invite you to come home.

Are there many opportunities for service?

Yes, there are. The chances for involvement vary; we need and welcome active lay men and women. We are building a community of God's Church and it is a task that requires commitment, sacrifice, tenacity and faith, not only from leadership but the laity. It has been well said that the traditional Anglican movement has been built upon the efforts of its laity. We believe that Church of the Apostles will be no different.

Anglicans take seriously our Lord's call to all Christians to serve Him. This means both a ministry within the Christian family and a ministry to the world to spread the Gospel and actively to show forth Jesus Christ in our lives.

How can I learn more?

Come and worship with us! We will be glad to welcome you and answer your questions.

Inquirers' Classes are conducted, usually by the clergy but sometimes by knowledgeable lay teachers, for persons interested in learning more about the traditional Anglican Church or interested in becoming a member of the Church. Church members are encouraged to attend, both to brush up on their own knowledge of the faith and to show their interest in potential members.

Bible Study Groups are available throughout the year. These are open to Anglicans and non-Anglicans alike who wish to deepen their understanding of God's word in the Holy Scriptures. Other study topics of interest to most Christians: Church History, Worship, the life of prayer, and more are investigated from time to time, often as part of a study group during the Lenten Season. Interested inquirers of any faith are always welcome.

"O Gracious Father, we humbly beseech thee for thy holy Catholic Church; That thou wouldest be pleased to fill it with all truth, in all peace. Where it is corrupt, purify it; where it is in error, direct it; where in any thing it is amiss, reform it. Where it is right, establish it; where it is in want, provide for it; where it is divided, reunite it; for the sake of him who died and rose again, and ever liveth to make intercession for us, Jesus Christ, thy Son, Our Lord. Amen."  (The Book of Common Prayer, page 37)
